The 'Gambler,' an angst-ridden, existential film like individuals very popular within the seventies, was directed by Karel Reisz ('Saturday Evening and Sunday Morning') and compiled by James Toback (loosely in line with the short novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky). It dedicated to a brand new You are able to British professor who experienced from the gambling addiction that triggered him to extort money from his mother, betray his girlfriend, and convince among his students to shave points inside a the game of basketball. Trailer For Winterbottom's Trishna
Freida Pinto takes up Sturdy in IndiaContinuing his pursuit to do strange and interesting things with Thomas Sturdy books, here is a trailer for Michael Winterbottom's Trishna, which transposes Tess from the d'Urbervilles to modern-day India. Following his reasonably straight adaptation of Jude the Obscure, and also the Claim, which switched The Mayor of Casterbridge right into a Western, Trishna stars Freida Pinto because the titular primitive creature from the heath (or its Rajasthan equivalent), who will get into relationship problems with Riz Ahmed's Jay Singh. Trishna goes to dedicate yourself him after any sort of accident destroys her father's jeep (it is a equine within the book) however the pair's love is complicated through the clash between Trishna's rural roots and also the urbanity and education that Jay signifies. This is the official plot summary a minimum of, which does not cover Tess' rape and also the extended aftermath which forms the core of Hardy's novel. There is no trace of this within the trailer either, which seems to visit the star-cross'd enthusiasts route. Jay would appear to become Angel Clare, and it is unclear if there's an Alec d'Urberville whatsoever, but Hardy's theme of the beautiful traditional world versus the evils of modernity certainly appears to become front and center. The dreamy soundtrack, that it's as though you will see much dancing, is as simple as Shigeru Umebayashi, with original tunes by Amit Trivedi, and Trishna is going to be seeking distribution in the Toronto Worldwide Film Festival, where it premieres on September 9.

India row on revenue sharing
Rise of the Planet of the Apes opened only in single-screen cinemas.
Hollywood distributors and India's multiplexes are in a standoff over revenue sharing, which is forcing films to release in single-screen cinemas.Distribs and multiplexes used to take an equal share in the box office revenue in the first week of a film's release under a two-year agreement signed in 2009. The distribs' share falls to 42.5% in the second week, 37.5% in the third week and 32.5% in the fourth. The agreement expired on June 30, and plex owners offered distributors 45% in the first week, 37.5% in the second, 32.5% in the third and 27.5% in the fourth. This was unacceptable to Warner Bros. India, nearly scuppering the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." The film was eventually released after both sides agreed to postpone the discussion on revenue sharing.Last week, Fox Star Studios India failed to reach a revenue agreement on "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," forcing the film to release in 400 single-screen cinemas.Fox said in a statement: "Despite our best efforts, we were unable to come to an appropriate commercial arrangement with our exhibition partners as we were offered terms that were not consistent with other recent Fox films of a similar scale."Pic grossed a respectable $1.3 million in its opening weekend, but the returns would have been higher had it been released in plexes, which are typically far plusher, boast superior projection and charge higher ticket prices than single screens. Affluent Indians, who are willing to pay higher rates for better facilities, usually shun single-screen theaters.Though both distribs and plex operators are negotiating, neither side is willing to budge from its position. Distribs want to continue the 2009 agreement while plexes are adamant on the new terms. On Friday "Captain America: The First Avenger," distributed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, Warner's "Final Destination 5" and Disney's "Winnie the Pooh" open in India. IMDb - Road to Nowhere
There's a murky tenuous balance between reality and fiction; particularly when it involves a beautiful young woman, murder, a powerful politico, a missing fortune and suicide. A passionate filmmaker creating a film based upon a true crime casts an unknown mysterious young woman bearing a disturbing resemblance to the femme fatale in the story. Unsuspectingly, he finds himself drawn into a complex web of haunting intrigue, obsessed with the woman, the crime, her possibly notorious past and the disturbing complexity between art and truth. From the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina to Verona, Rome and London, new truths are revealed and clues to other crimes and passions, darker and even more complex are uncovered.
